Seattle Website Hosting

*Note: To see Seattle website hosting plans please click here. The pacific northwest is a gorgeous place to visit. For those of you who live near the Seattle area, consider yourself blessed. What's important now though, is to help you find a great website hosting plan. I am assuming you live in or near the Seattle area and you want to host a personal or business site?

Before we dive into what you should be looking for in web hosting, have you ever stopped to consider just how important your webhost decision is? Imagine if companies such as Google and Microsoft had lousy web hosts. Their business would fall before you could blink. Your webhost is the backbone of your company and website.

They act as your digital storefront and it is imperative that you keep that store open 24 hours a day. Somewhere in the world, someone is awake and wants to view your site. Just because you are asleep doesn't mean everyone else is. OK OK OK.... so what do you need to know when picking a web host? There are so many factors that are involved with web hosting but don't let all of the bells and whistles confuse you. There are only a handful of things which should influence your decision.

Make sure that the price is under $14 dollars a month. If you pay any more than this, you are either getting ripped off, or chances are you don't need a package that fancy. Price is not everything though when it comes to hosting plans. You want to make sure you can host a bunch of different websites on the same plan. This is typically known as "unlimited domains". Make sure that your plan will offer this feature.

So now you know the price to keep an eye out for and to also try and find an unlimited domain plan. Can you think of what's next? Look and see how much room your plan will give you to store your files. This is known as disk space. Anything over 5GB should be plenty. HostGator gives you 600GB. That is unbelievable isn't it? There is no way you are going to use 600GB of disk space for your website unless you are Google.

The next factor you want to consider is the amount of bandwidth you are allowed each month. Bandwidth is the amount of traffic (visitors) your website can handle each month. HostGator gives you 6,000 GB of bandwidth per month with their Baby Plan. This equates to roughly 600 million page views per month. If your site gets that many visitors a month please send me an email.

So there you have it, the basics of web hosting. As far as the type of server you need, it doesn't really matter. Linux or Windows are both equal in my opinion, unless you specifically need ASP for your website. In that case, you have to choose Windows hosting. So for the average website, Linux is the choice of champions. One last thing, if you don't like HostGator I would suggest you check out LunarPages. They also have great plans at affordable prices.
